BASEBALL COACHES
Jason Torres of
Orlando, was drafted out of high school by the Texas Rangers as a
catcher in 1997. Jason also signed a letter of intent with Florida
International University before he was drafted. He was part of the 2
time Atlantic League Champion Newark Bears. Through a 10 year
career Jason batted .236 with a .976 fielding percentage. Jason's
father, Victor is the AA hitting coach for the San Francisco Giants and his
brother, Christopher was drafted by Detroit and is still playing
professionally.
ANDY CARTER
of Philadelphia played 13 years of professional baseball. Andy was
drafted out of Springfield High School, Montgomery County in 1987 by the
Philadelphia Phillies and made his major league debut in 1994. Andy
played with the Phillies for one season. While in the Phillies minor
league system, Andy pitched two no-hitters and was involved in a Double
No Hitter against the Boston Red Sox in 1992. Andy has pitched as a
starter and reliever during his career and was named the 1988 Phillies
Minor League Pitcher of the Year. Andy also played professionally in the
Chinese Professional Baseball League. Now residing in Orlando, Andy
prides himself on teaching proper pitching mechanics to our area youth.
Concentrating on footwork, body motion and release points, Andy provides
a fun, yet challenging, atmosphere for youth to improve their skills on
the mound. Andy’s greatest reward of working with his players at
M-PACT is watching them improve from week to week. He prides himself on
helping his players understand the game from a pitcher’s perspective on
the mound. Andy keeps his players motivated to work hard by relaying his
big league experiences so the players can visualize what it takes to
make it to the elite level of sports. Andy has a two year old son,
Luke, whom he says he’s ready to coach when he’s old enough.
KEVIN
COMINSKY, of Oviedo, Fl played
for the High School Lions for 4 years and was an All-State, All Region
and All conference player. While at Oviedo High School he was part of
two state final teams that were nationally ranked.
After high school Coach Cominsky played two years at Flager College and
finished his college career at Southeastern University in Lakeland where
he set records in batting average, stolen bases and on base percentage.
In college he netted two national championships and was All-American,
All South Region and All Conference player twice. Following
college Kevin played two years of professional baseball in the
California Golden League. Kevin brings a
passion like no other to his coaching of young players. He made his mark
in baseball with his speed and quickness and a no nonsense work ethic
that he instills in every player he coaches. He teaches hitting with the
simplest techniques and drills that insure quick success that lasts with
all of his players.
RAFAEL
SUAZO, “Raffi” played centerfield for University High School.
After graduation he signed and played for Brevard Community College in
Melbourne Florida in 1996 and 1997. He then went on to play winter
baseball in the Dominican Republic and was also in the Cleveland Indians
and Texas Rangers baseball schools. His basic natural instincts are what
caught the eye of professional scouts and Raffi tries to bring out the
natural instincts of his players while coaching them on the field. Raffi
strives to make sure that his players are better at the fundamentals
today than they were yesterday and his satisfaction soars when he sees
them grow as athletes and people. He loves to teach the mechanics needed
to be successful on the field and at the plate.
Mike Metcalfe played locally for
Azalea Park 14-15 yr old Little League All star team that place 3rd in
the world. In high school I was an all Metro Conference and
All-State player for Colonial High School. Mike was then a member
of Team Florida and a member of United States Jr. Olympic team and was a
Mizuno All-American. He was a 40th round selection by the Houston Astros
out of High School, but decided to play 1 year of JR College ball and
made All-Panhandle Conference and JUCO All-State for the state of
Florida. He then went to the University of Miami and earned was a
All-American honors his JR. year. He played in the Cape Cod summer
baseball league and was 5th in the league in hitting with a 328.
average. and made the Cape Cod All Star team as well. In 1994 Mike
played in the College World Series. and then was the 76th player
taken in the 1994 Major League Baseball Player Draft by the Los Angeles
Dodgers. While with the Dodgers he started his pro career in the
California League "A" Ball and worked his way up to the Majors playing
at every minor league level. Mike was called up to the Big
league's by the Dodger's in 1998 for the first time and again in 2000.
Mike also played for the Cincinnati Reds and the Kansas City Royals
before injury ended his career. He now wants to pass along his
knowledge and passion for the game to young baseball players in Orlando.
